The DIA have published that its members strongly disagree with the DSA to make it compulsory for supervising drivers to accompany test candidates from October 2010. The DSA agrue that not all ADIs make themselves available for the end of test debrief, especially at DTCs that do not have car parks. They also say it is an effort to improve road safety.

The DIA does not support this proposal and disagrees it will help road safety. Most sensible ADIs will know where to stand to see their vehicle return at the end of test. It also takes away the opportunty for instructors to discuss local issues while their candidates are out on test. The nature of the job means ADIs work in isolation, the test centre is the one place where they have the opportunity to share knowledge and ideas. They see this as undermining professional instructors.

THE Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has confirmed its new driving test fee structure which will come into force from the 1^st April 2009.

DSA chief executive, Rosemary Thew, said: "We are doing everything we can to ensure that both the driving test fees and the driving theory test fees remain as low as possible for our customers - particularly during the current economic climate"

The fee increases will apply to theory and practical driving tests booked on or after 1^st April this year. While fees relating to the Approved Driving Instructor scheme will increase from 24 April this year.

The car theory test will rise from £30 to £31, the car practical driving test from £56.50 to £62.
