Before you can apply for your Practical Driving Test, you must first pass both parts of the theory test.
To take the test you must take with you both parts of your licence (photocard & paper counterpart). If you have an old style licence with no photo ID, you must bring a valid passport with you. This is the only other form of photo ID that will be accepted. If you fail to do so you will not be allowed to take the test. Once you have been registered at reception you will enter the examination room, where there is strictly no talking. If you have a problem during the test then raise your hand and wait for assistance. The first part of the theory test is multiple choice. You use a touch screen computer and you have to answer 50 questions. Before you start you’ll be given instructions on how the test works and given the option of a practice run. Once you have finished the practice then the timer starts for the actual test. Some questions have more than one answer so be sure to read the questions carefully. To pass this section you must answer 43 or more of the questions correctly. You are allowed 57 minutes to complete part 1. The second part of the test is hazard perception. On the same computer you will be shown 14 video clips. Before you start you will be shown a short video clip explaining how the hazard perception works. Each clip will include at least one developing hazard and one of the clips will have two. When you spot the developing hazards you click on the computer’s mouse. The sooner you respond to the hazard the higher you will score. The maximum score is 5 per hazard. To pass this section you must score 44 out of 75. At the end of the test you can answer some customer survey questions, but these are optional. These questions do not affect your test result. When you have finished you should leave the examination room quietly as there may still be others taking a test. You will then be given your result by a member of staff.
